Hughenden Manor

Close to Downley is Hughenden Manor. This was once the home of Benjamin Disraeli who was Prime Minister to Queen Victoria. It is now owned by the National Trust and is open to visitors daily through the summer.

Downley has other claims to fame too.

  • Downley Lodge was once the home of Ivor Novello, the English actor and playwright.

  • Through the woods which surround the village is Queen Elizabeth's walk - Queen Elizabeth I that is - who is reputed to have passed through Downley on her on her journey from Bradenham to Hughenden.
